About Me.

Marcele A. Mitscherlich is a professional scenic artist, designer, and multi-media artist who has been working in the theatre for over 25 years. She is a proud member of United Scenic Artists local 829 NYC and earned her BFA in Sculpture & Fine Arts from The School of Visual Arts in NYC. Her Broadway credits include Book Of Mormon, Hedwig and the Angry Itch, Les Miserables, Beauty and the Beast, Pippin, King Kong, and Finding Neverland. She’s also worked in television on shows such as Sesame Street, Saturday Night Live, Sound of Music Live and Peter Pan Live. In addition, she has helped create the Christmas windows for Saks Fifth Avenue and Macy’s. Ms. Mitscherlich lives in New Paltz with her three children.

She has enjoyed this, her third time collaborating with the Denizen. For this production, True Love Will Always Find You In The End, she designed an installation for the set; her artwork will be featured in the lobby, a series of new pieces prompted by the narrative arc of the story.

“It's been a pleasure to create this body of work, inspired by the Denizen Theater’s new production and especially the collaboration with director JJ Kandel,” says Mitscherlich. “Our discussions generated a cascade of ideas, the kind that all artists long for. The pieces now in the gallery were unearthed by immersing myself in the script. Everywhere I turned a new inspiration appeared; it was exciting to bring the combination of technical proficiency and confidence to interpret Labute’s storyline into these pieces of art. Each one subtly pulls the observer into the narrative of the show. I’m aware that this kind of creative connection is always there, yet it’s easily lost, hidden in the shadows; it’s such a gift when we open up to seeing it.”
